Our top priorities are what we call our

Triple S Philosophy:

safety

Our highest priority is keeping our students and instructors safe. We require all instructors to be certified in USAG Safety, First Aid/CPR, and CDC Concussion Safety. We also attend regional and national conferences and numerous online trainings every year. Daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance checks and cleanings on our equipment ensure it is up to the highest standards.

service

We want you to feel seen, heard, and supported! Our instructors are available before and after each class to address any concerns or questions you may have, and are always reachable via email. Respectful communication is critical in order to build skills for students, and relationships with parents; our door is always open for constructive feedback.

support

To us, support means more than spotting. We want to make sure every child feels special—because they are! We believe positive reinforcement is the best way to grow skills, build confidence, and nurture relationships with our students. We really love what we do, and keeping a positive attitude and energetic teaching style reflects that to students and parents alike.

I absolutely LOVE Gryphon Gymnastics! They are so professional, and all the instructors are so great with children...it is such a wonderful way for kids to have loads of fun while getting energy out, practicing new skills, & gaining confidence in the process!

meet our founder, Abby!

Abby Reid is a Charlottesville native and the daughter of two elementary school teachers. Her mother also taught dance locally for 30+ years at the Dance Studio (later DanCenter). Abby spent her formative years tagging along to classes, later training at the studio six days a week—a true “studio rat.”

Abby was also a successful competitive gymnast and diver. As a high school diver, Abby placed top 3 in the VA state meet three times, including winning the State championship in 2000. In 2001, she was one of around 25 dancers accepted into the Virginia Governor’s School summer intensive, and went on to receive her BFA in Dance Education and a license to teach dance in schools K-12 from East Carolina University.

She has been teaching dance since around 2000 and coaching gymnastics since 2003; she likes to say gymnastics has her heart & dance has her soul. She has taught for several years at each gym in Charlottesville and in college; as a competitive coach, she has trained multiple state & regional champions. Her varied experiences over the years have helped her develop a unique and comprehensive curriculum, one that utilizes the strengths from her long career in gymnastics & dance.
