Abby Reid is a Charlottesville native and the daughter of two former elementary school teachers. Her mother also taught dance locally for 30+ years at the Dance Studio (later DanCenter). Abby spent her formative years tagging along to classes with her mom, later training at the studio six days a week—a true “studio rat.”
Abby was also a successful competitive gymnast and diver. She reached JO level 8 in gymnastics, and as a high school diver placed top 3 in the VA state meet three times, including winning the State championship in 2000. In 2001, Abby was one of around 25 dancers accepted into the Virginia Governor’s School for the Arts, and went on to receive her BFA in Dance Education and a license to teach dance in schools K-12 from East Carolina University.
She has been teaching dance since around 2000 and coaching gymnastics since 2003; she likes to say gymnastics has her heart & dance has her soul. She has taught for several years at each gym in Charlottesville and in college. As a competitive coach, she loves coaching beam & choreographing floor routines, and has trained multiple VA state champions. Her varied experiences over the years have helped her develop a unique and comprehensive curriculum, one that utilizes the strengths from each place she has taught.
